Couldn't have said it better. All you need to know is basic knowledge of computers and the Internet and just plain old common sense.
ID verification and things like that will probably never be properly enforced. It's impossible to me. Because let's say that the government takes control over most mainstream websites (which will probably never happen hahahaha).... that leaves those alternative, less popular websites, and even if those are infiltrated, the Internet is built on protocols! Protocols aren't just going to go away. Unless you live in Russia or some shit where they're trying to dismantle the Internet. Some people are just too discouraged and lazy to use and understand them to their advantage.
The truth is, everybody complaining cares more about convenience than privacy. No shame in it, it's human nature. JS is used in about 97 percent of websites, if I recall correctly. Most mainstream websites REQUIRE JS (Source: I used to exclusively use JS-free web browsers). So despite having the urge to be free (as in freedom) I keep JS on now. Matrix and Signal have a significantly smaller community than Discord, or any other chat software. So I understand why a person would use proprietary software over free software but to have the nerve to complain, when there's literally a way out, when it's only our laziness that stops us from complete surveillance is ridiculous to me.
Id also like to mention the other side of the spectrum, people who obsess over free software to a destructive point. You'll never be free. Ever. No such thing as true safety or freedom if you're on the internet.
So, we should just accept the things we can't change and change the things we can! Don't let laziness or paranoia drive you to madness, chuds!
Install GNU! Reject Web ,3.0! And keep the Net free!
